Today the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM), welcome Safe, Effective, Quality Occupational Health Service (SEQOHS) accreditation to physiotherapy occupational health services.
This decision follows a successful pilot scheme managed by SEQOHS and The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health and Ergonomics (ACPOHE), who tested how applicable the SEQOHS standards and accreditation process is for physiotherapy occupational health services.
Dr Sally Coomber, Clinical Lead for SEQOHS, explained:
“I’m delighted we can now offer our occupational health physio colleagues the same opportunity to work towards an established and respected mark of accreditation. The expansion of the scheme is an exciting development for SEQOHS. Through close partnership working with ACPOHE, we have developed many ways to support physiotherapy services to help raise the standard of care and we look forward to the first physiotherapy occupational health service training day this summer.”
Mark Armour, Honorary Chair of ACPOHE added:
“The ACPOHE executive committee and membership are extremely grateful to SEQOHS for the opportunity to apply this accreditation within our field of expertise. Occupational health (OH) physiotherapy has made great strides in the past few years and it has gained improved recognition and working relationships within the occupational health world. The SEQOHS standards will allow OH physiotherapists to demonstrate their commitment to excellence and quality.”
SEQOHS is a set of standards and a process of voluntary accreditation that aims to help to raise the overall standard of care provided by occupational health services. The benefits of SEQOHS are diverse. It can afford a commercial advantage, helps to generate a culture of continual improvement and offers independent validation of a safe, effective and quality service.
Initially SEQOHS will be welcoming applications for registration from stand-alone physiotherapy occupational health services. If you would like to register with SEQOHS or learn more about the scheme go to www.SEQOHS.org or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org

Notes for editors
SEQOHS stands for Safe, Effective, and Quality Occupational Health Service and is managed by the Royal College of Physicians on behalf of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
Since its launch in 2010, the SEQOHS accreditation has become recognised as the industry standard for occupational health services, with over 150 accredited and many more undergoing the accreditation process. Accredited services encompass both NHS and private sectors and range from single handed practices to multinational companies.
Occupational health services wishing to become accredited register first with SEQOHS; they upload evidence into the SEQOHS web system and then, when their uploading of evidence is completed, they receive a site visit by trained assessors. Once accredited, services are issued with a certificate which last for five years, subject to annual checks.
SEQOHS provides training days to help occupational health units prepare for the accreditation process.
