Occupational Health Manifesto 2019

FOM [1] and SOM [2] welcome the focus on work and health in the UK Government’s 2019 “Health is everyone’s business” [3] consultation and call for political parties in their manifestos to recognise the need for investment in occupational health (OH).

In 2016 an All Party Parliamentary Group Committee highlighted that less than 50% of the working population has access to OH and only 13% to specialists in occupational medicine. [4]

Positive action was recommended to increase training places for OH professionals, ensure that all health professionals recognise work as a health outcome, and support research in this area. These are key to the improvements in health at work which will benefit the UK economy.

A Manifesto for Occupational Health in Scotland
