GMC Revalidation Announcement

The GMC has now issued guidance that doctors who are due to revalidate before the end of September 2020 will have their revalidation date deferred for one year. I have now also been advised, by the National Responsible Officer for NHS England, that appraisal meetings can be rescheduled if they were expected before the end of September 2020.

There may be some of you who wish to go ahead nevertheless with your appraisal. If you can agree that with your appraiser then it could be done remotely rather than face to face. For the rest of you I can say, as Responsible Officer for the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, that no-one will be penalised for missing an appraisal. All I ask is that you try to arrange it as soon as is sensible and practicable beyond this current national crisis period.

Over the coming months, the absolute maximum I am expecting, for compliance with the requirements of revalidation, is some CPD if you are able to do this. It is perfectly acceptable for that to be personal study, for example, about coronavirus.

I would like to extend my good wishes to all of you and your families at what is a challenging time for all of us.
